1.      Put dried chamomile flowers in the cat's basket. 

2.      Dust some derris powder from a Garden Centre on the cat’s coat, leave for half an hour, then comb or brush it out over some newspaper. 

3.      Vacuum carpets regularly, remembering to do areas like under beds, around skirting boards and window sills. Better still sprinkle the carpet with borax and leave for 48 hours, then vacuum. Keep pets and children away during treatment.  

4.      Take and wet pieces of newspaper with cedar oil. Put them all over the floor, under the beds or on rugs, and leave overnight. Fleas will gather on the newspaper, and you can put them, newspaper and all, into plastic bags and dispose of them in the dustbin.  

5.      Place some cuttings of  under mattresses.  

6.      Dissolve 3 blocks of camphor in 2 cups methylated spirits, and rub onto the mattress and nearby furniture. 

7.      Catnip, Rue, Tansy and Wormwood also repel fleas. Plant some in the garden, scatter in pets’ bedding 

8.      Powdered Southernwood, scattered on carpets, will rid the house of fleas. 

 

 

Natural Flea Remedies – Flea Spray 

Pyrethrum Spray can be obtained from the flowers when they are in full bloom. A litre of boiling water added to half a cup of firmly packed flowers. All you do then is let it cool down and add a teaspoon of pure soap, and then shake well. As a spray this will kill most garden pests as well as fleas. Use it early morning and evening making sure the weather is cool.

1.      The dried Pyrethrum flowers can be ground to a powder and used to dust. Both powder and liquid kills fleas 

2.      To get rid of fleas in your carpet, after removing pets from the room, sprinkle Borax over the carpet and rub it in. Wait a while, then vacuum as usual. Keep pets and children outside while you wait. Reapply the Borax once a week until the problem is gone.
